We give an overview of security in embedded applications and cover the topics secure hardware and secure software update in more depth. A secure hardware anchor is used in many applications to prevent software manipulations and attacks with direct access to the device. The secure hardware can be used as storage for security-relevant data (e.g. keys) and can be used as root-of-trust. Secure software download makes sure that only original software is flashed only form authorized parties.

The cooperation between the chip manufacturer STMicroelectronics and escrypt as a system provider offers our customers complete solutions in the area embedded security. escrypt provides the support for the application specific STMicroelectronic security controller and assists customers with training, first level support for tools and controllers as well as with code review. Additionally escrypt implements security controllers for customers, develops and analyzes security concepts based on micro controllers and accomplishes certifications (i.e. FIPS and Common Criteria).
