Dear Sir`s,
Embedded security more and more emerges as an enabler for your business solutions. Using escrypt products, your company is able to successfully set up and operate new business models. Recently, escrypt has developed esACT which provides secure feature activation for your business and product requirements. esACT offers you the latest technology to release your products with pre- installed services, features, and software, which can be securely enabled with activation codes later in the field. This allows exciting business models such as pay-per-use models and activate-once-and-use-always models. Pay-per-use can drastically reduce one-time acquisition costs for customers while increasing the long-term revenue of manufacturers. "Activate-once-and-use-always" allows your products to come in differently configured variants.
esACT provides both the software modules for the embedded device itself as well as modules for the infrastructure backend. It is highly flexible and works for both OEM products and aftermarket solutions. The software modules come as generic software solution and then are adjusted to your particular requirements. Potential applications include - but are not limited to - the following:
- Infotainment systems
- Consumer electronics
- Pay-on-demand applications
- Industrial machinery
- Automotive systems
- Mobile devices
An exemplary application could be the following.
Example A: The industrial robot is sold with the capability to perform only a certain number of movements per hour. Now, the production company would like to change the process and more movements are needed. The sales team of the robot company just passes on the activation code after receiving the payment and the robot will be able to do the job.
Example B: The standard graphics output of a handheld device is only two dimensional. The 3D-animation will be more expensive to the user and can be activated in the store or in the field. The customer has the advantage that he pays only for the desired features. The producer benefits by producing a single version only.
Example C: A vehicle is only configured with a basic set of features in order to enter the market at a very competitive price. Customers can easily activate additional features at any time without going to a workshop or a car dealer. They visit a webpage and pay for the demanded feature. They receive an activation code as, e.g., text message on their mobile phone and enter this activation code to the vehicle via an available human-machine-interface.
Owners will try to bypass the activation and use a feature without paying. Therefore protecting the business model with a underlying secure feature activation system is crucial for the success of the business model.
escrypt's esACT solution provides such a secure platform and is flexible enough to incorporate existing processes in the backend infrastructure and run on a variety of available platforms in the embedded system. esACT provides the software modules to manage and generate the feature activation codes in the backend infrastructure and to handle the activation code verification in the actual device. esACT comes with a variety of features such as revocation and return of features. The actual application can then easily be implemented on top of the esACT platform.
More information about esACT can be found in the attached flyer.
