February 2010

Dear Sir's,

With our second newsletter of this year we would like to give you some information concerning escrypt`s Cryptography and Embedded Security Workshop (Class 1.5) at the embedded world 2010 in Nuremberg.

After the brilliant success in the last year escrypt is organizing again this year the "Cryptography and Embedded Security Workshop" (Class 1.5) on 2nd March 2010 from 09.00 until 17.00 o`clock

Top speakers present interesting talks to topic and technological solutions in the area of embedded security. The workshop starts with a tutorial followed by presentations concerning Secure Feature Activation, Side Channel Analysis, Automotive Security, RFID and smard card technology, plagiarism and security in healthcare.

We are looking forward welcoming you at our workshop. Would you please register online under the workshop`s (Class 1.5) webpage. We are pleased to inform you individually concerning of all aspects of the embedded security.

Best regards

Thomas Wollinger and Jan Pelzl

VANET 2010 - The Sixth ACM International Workshop on Vehicular Networking

VANET 2010 will be held September 2010 in Chicago, USA, as part of ACM MobiCom 2010. André Weimerskirch of escrypt will be again the co-chair of VANET 2010. The workshop showed that research in this area has become mature but that still security issues need to be resolved before deployment. escrypt is one of the leaders in this area around data authentication and integration, privacy and key management.

SAE 2010 World Congress in Detroit

escrypt presents a paper at the SAE 2010 World Congress in Detroit, April 13-15, 2010. The paper covers an introduction to implementing Data Security and Privacy in Next-Generation Electric Vehicle Systems. Further information concerning the SAE 2010 are available at this web page.

Understanding Cryptography - The Book

Cryptography has sneaked into everything, from web browsers and email programs to cell phones, bank cards, cars and even into medical implants. Thus, an increasing number of people have to understand how crypto schemes work and how they can be used in practice. Prof. Christof Paar and Dr. Jan Pelzl from escrypt wanted to create a book that teaches modern applied cryptography to readers with a technical background but without an education in mathematics. Due to its strong focus on practical issues such as standardized ciphers, state-of-the-art security recommendations and implementation issues, the book is also especially useful for practitioners in industry who want to learn about modern security mechanisms. The book teaches virtually all modern crypto schemes of practical relevance, including the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), DES and 3DES, RSA, elliptic curves, Diffie-Hellman key exchange, Digital Signature Algorithms, ECDSA and the SHA hash function family. Protocols and key establishment methods, including certificates and public-key infrastructure, are also introduced. Timely topics such as lightweight ciphers for RFIDs and mobile devices are treated as well. The book has been published by Springer in December 2010. EUROFORUM conference "Automotive Software"

At the EUROFORUM conference "Automotive Software" (4th/5th May 2010 at the MilleniumHotel and Resort Stuttgart), escrypt is presenting a talk with the titel "More IT-Security on our streets" on 5th May 2010 at 16.00 o`clock. The presentation has the following topics: a) Need of IT-Security in automotive applications, b) vulnerable vehicular applications, c) attacks/attacker on automotive IT-Systems, d) IT security mechanism and IT security protection for Vehicles.
