escrypt Software at LinuxTag 2010

At LinuxTag 2010 the Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) presents the ESOSI software.

ESOSI is a solution for file encryption in a client-server architecture and was mainly developed by escrypt. With this solution, files are automatically encrypted and decrypted.

The authentication is performed with a smartcard and directories can be assigned to user groups.
The availability is protected by means of emergency smart cards and cryptographic secret sharing.

The access of the system administrator to key system files and users can effectively be prevented.

LinuxTag is the most important place for Linux and Open Source in Europe. The 16th LinuxTag presents all the latest for professional users, decision makers, developers, beginners and the Linux community — June 9 to 12 at the Berlin Fairgrounds.

Understanding Cryptography - The Book

Cryptography has sneaked into everything, from web browsers and email programs to cell phones, bank cards, cars and even into medical implants. Thus, an increasing number of people have to understand how crypto schemes work and how they can be used in practice. Prof. Christof Paar and Dr. Jan Pelzl from escrypt wanted to create a book that teaches modern applied cryptography to readers with a technical background but without an education in mathematics. Due to its strong focus on practical issues such as standardized ciphers, state-of-the-art security recommendations and implementation issues, the book is also especially useful for practitioners in industry who want to learn about modern security mechanisms.

The book teaches virtually all modern crypto schemes of practical relevance, including the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), DES and 3DES, RSA, elliptic curves, Diffie-Hellman key exchange, Digital Signature Algorithms, ECDSA and the SHA hash function family. Protocols and key establishment methods, including certificates and public-key infrastructure, are also introduced. Timely topics such as lightweight ciphers for RFIDs and mobile devices are treated as well.

The book has been published by Springer in December 2010. For more information, please refer to: www.crypto-textbook.com

Privacy in ITS Applications Workshop
