Security testing as acid test for connected vehicles
Putting automotive security to the test
The increasing connectivity of modern vehicles brings new risks from a security standpoint. To safeguard connected systems against unauthorized access and attacks by cybercriminals, the new ISO/SAE 21434 standard “Road vehicles – Cybersecurity engineering” embodys a security-by-design-based approach. It provides for comprehensive testing at the component and system level. This will make security testing an acid test for security measures and an integral part of type approval. Performing and evaluating the tests requires specific know-how. This white paper presents the main test procedures, identifies typical findings and points of attack, and demonstrates the necessity of a holistic security strategy.
