SAE-AWC 2019 in Shenzhen: Automotive cybersecurity calls for holistic approach
With the development towards automated and connected driving, automotive cybersecurity is becoming increasingly important. This was acknowledged at the SAE-AWC 2019 Automated Vehicle Security & Safety Technology Conference (AVST) from 28 to 30 August in Shenzhen. Dr. Wolfgang Sienel, Sales Director ESCRYPT had been invited to host the Cybersecurity Expert Forum and gave a highly acclaimed talk on "Security for automated vehicles across the life cycle ".
Security Orchestration throughout the entire system, life cycle and supply chain
In his lecture Wolfgang Sienel explained, that with new disruptive technologies on the rise automotive manufacturers are facing significantly more dynamic and complex development, production and service processes. In particular, IT security requirements will increase dramatically, especially as new regulatory requirements make automotive security a prerequisite for type approval. Security will therefore have to be orchestrated by the OEM over the entire system and the entire life cycle of the vehicle, including organization, processes and the entire supply chain. Sienel pointed out that what is required is a holistic approach in which central security management sets the pace for the implementation and operation of the necessary IT security measures at all levels.
In the concluding panel discussion chaired by the ESCRYPT Sales Director, the security experts discussed key issues of automotive cybersecurity: Which attack scenarios has to be considered by the automotive industry and how can they be countered? How can automotive manufacturers and suppliers prepare for upcoming international and national standards and regulations on automotive security? And how can the entire automotive ecosystem be secured in cooperation with others?
The Cybersecurity Expert Forum at SAE-AWC 2019 provided the participants with many answers and an exciting exchange of ideas - an altogether successful event on one of the urgent issues of future mobility.
