ESCRYPT’s crypto library fulfills ASIL D requirements

Effective immediately, ESCRYPT’s CycurLIB crypto library is ready for use in all systems with ASIL D classification. This means that OEMs and suppliers can now integrate the cryptographic library into all safety-relevant vehicle systems up to the highest safety level.

As defined by ISO 26262, the Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) outlines risk classification for in-vehicle systems in terms of functional safety. ASIL D is the highest classification level and the benchmark for all vehicle systems with high safety relevance. In accordance with ISO 26262, the process ESCRYPT used to develop the latest version of CycurLIB is in line with ASIL D, which makes this crypto library a key component in IT security applications and suitable for use in essential safety systems.

As a cryptographic library, CycurLIB provides suitable algorithms, formats, and encryption protocols for safety-relevant use cases in the vehicle (e.g. secure flashing and booting of driver assistance systems, steering, and braking system). CycurLIB is also platform-independent and its configuration system is compatible with AUTOSAR. It supports the required security functions – including signature verification for firmware updates, and access via the OBD2 interface – in particular where safety is paramount.

ASIL D classification means that it is possible to use CycurLIB in conjunction with safety-critical software on a shared controller – with freedom from interference and as such without partitioning. In this way, CycurLIB is easy to integrate into any ASIL D vehicle system, without any loss in performance, runtime overhead, or interference with other applications.
